Understanding titles

What is a title?

Each registering body has a list of titles you can show alongside your dog's name. The system shows you the recognized titles to choose from, based on the registering body your dog is registered with.

Some titles are only recognized by the registering body that awarded them, but some registering bodies also recognize titles from another. For example, the Canadian Kennel Club recognizes Barn Hunt Association titles, but the Barn Hunt Association does not recognize Canadian Kennel Club titles, and the Canadian Kennel Club does not recognize American Kennel Club titles.

How titles are awarded

When a dog is judged against its breed standard or performs in an event, it may earn an award based on certain requirements. Once your dog has met the criteria, you apply for the title to the registering body (for example, the Canadian Kennel Club or the United Kennel Club) before the title can be awarded.

How to know a title was awarded

When the registering body accepts your application, you'll receive confirmation of your dog's title. Awarded titles are not added to your dog's file on DogShow.com automatically: you'll need to add them yourself.

Placements and stakes such as "Best in Group" or "Best in Show" are not titles, so they can't be added to your dog's title list.

Adding new titles to your dog on DogShow.com

Please don't add titles to the Registered Name, Sire or Dam fields. Use the separate Titles field: it only lets you add recognized titles, so your entry isn't rejected.

1. Log in to your DogShow.com account.
2. Go to My Account and find My Dogs.
3. Under My Dogs, click the name of the dog you want to update, or click View all of my dogs.
4. Click Edit This Dog's Details.
5. Under Titles, select the new titles.
6. Click Update My Details at the bottom of the page.

Finding a title

Click the Titles search box and scroll through the list until you see the title you're looking for. You can also start typing its name: the list narrows to the titles that match. Only titles the registering body supports are shown.

Adding more than one title

Click beside an existing title in the search box to add another. Search for each title separately, select it from the list, then go on to the next one.

Don't search for several titles at once with spaces between them (for example "CH CGN"). Search for and add "CH" first, then "CGN". Otherwise the system looks for a title called "CH CGN", which doesn't exist.
